UPS welcomes Adou Niamien
The Aerology Laboratory (LAERO), University of Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier (UPS-UT3), recently welcomed Mr Adou Niamien, a PhD student from the University of Jean Lorougnon Guédé de Daloa (UJLoG), Côte d’Ivoire. Adou is also a member of the Laboratory of Environmental Sciences and Technology (LSTE) of Daloa and the Laboratory of Material Sciences, Environment and Solar Energy (LASMES), at the University of Félix Houphouet-Boigny University (UFHB), Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
During his secondment Adou processed satellite data from the MODIS and CALIOP missions, with the aim of characterising and quantifying aerosol transport over Côte d’Ivoire and the Gulf of Guinea. The results of this analysis will contribute to a better understanding of the role of desert dust in transporting nutrients, including nitrogen, to other ecosystems. Desert dust can transport nutrients between distant ecosystems due to the long distances travelled by dust particles in the atmosphere. Consequently, dust particles may be a significant source of nitrogen for nitrogen-poor ecosystems.
Adou’s thesis is jointly supervised by Marcellin Adon (UJLoG) and Jean-François Léon (LAERO, CNRS). Adou spent a total of 6 months in Toulouse, 2-months funded by the INSA project and 4-months funded by the French Embassy.
