Videoconference “The Nitrogen Paradox” with Mr Adama BAKAYOKO and his students live from Abidjan

In January 2022, Alexandre Eissautier and Clem Samson, two scientific facilitators from APDOC, embarked on a two-month mission in Côte d’Ivoire to run a series of interactive workshops with secondary school children (see blogpost here). Alexandre and Clem spent one month at each of two different schools, one in Bingerville, Abidjan, and the other in Soubré, a town situated in the south-west of Côte d’Ivoire. 145 students and 7 teachers participated in the workshops, which used hands on activities to educate the children about the “Nitrogen Paradox”. Alexandre and Clem employed a range of tailor-made activities including experiments, role playing, and board games to explore the nitrogen cycle, the impacts of nitrogen on the environment and the history of nitrogen fertiliser.

The high school students had the opportunity to present the activities completed in the workshops, via online-participation, at the Exposcience Occitanie Festival in June 2022. The Exposcience Festival was an exhibition of projects for-and-by young people (5-25 years old) in science and technology. The festival also included fun workshops and events open to schoolchildren and the general public. The festivities included this radio interview with Adama Bakayoko, Bingerville high-school students and Clem Samson by the youth-focused web-radio station Les Radios Francas.
